WE'VE BEEN STRIPPED!

As you're probably aware, we're in the midst of a collaboration with STRIP Malaysia this month for our 2nd Birthday Bash. What you probably weren't aware of is that we got a bit of a Strip treatment ourselves too! Although, getting a full Brazilian can hardly be regarded as "a bit".

The treatment was, well, interesting lol. So we figured we'd share some insight about our Brazilian waxing experience with you, in case you weren't already aware of, err, how hairy (in every sense of the word) it can possibly get.

But First! A History Lesson On The Brazilian Wax.
Legend says that it all started with 7 Brazilian (hence the name) sisters, who went to NYC in 1987 and started offering waxing treatments to ladies that went beyond just the removal of portions of visible hair. The act of going 100% smooth operator wasn't a common thing back then, but it soon caught on, and since then, the Brazilian wax has become an accepted culture in the United States and beyond. It isn't done solely for aesthetic purposes either, as it does have hygiene benefits also.

There Goes Our Hair.
STRIP offers various levels of waxing treatments, from minimal trims, to the whole nine yards of hair removal known as the full Brazilian (RM114.50), which is what we underwent.

Whatever treatment you so desire, rest assured that the folks at STRIP are entirely professional and have had comprehensive training by waxing trainers from their main branch in Singapore. From the moment you step in, STRIP's Waxperts (wax experts) will be with you the entire time of your visit and they'll walk you through the steps during the entire treatment.

This was our first time doing this, and thanks to to Carmen, our waxpert, who managed to retain a really casual, non-awkward environment, we were surprisingly comfortable with being completely exposed to someone we'd never met before.

Hygiene is a top priority here, as it should be, and they are the first salon to introduce the "No Double Dipping" commandment, where each customer receives a new sealed Hygiene pack which contains disposable waxing equipment (including gloves), face masks, pH balance wet wipes and plenty of spatulas for wax dipping. Sharing isn't caring when it comes to our privates.

Upon settling into one of their treatment rooms, you'll be left alone to strip down and give your nether regions a cleaning with their wet wipes from the Hygiene Pack. Once you're clean, you're given a towel (placed nicely folded on the bed) to cover yourself and to let your waxpert know that you're ready to get down to business.

For more conservative folks like us, Carmen's ability to have us feeling completely normal while she lathered warm wax on to areas where the sun don't shine was invaluable. The entire treatment goes on for about 45 minutes (excluding chit chat time) and as waxing virgins, we must say that other than the pain, which we'll get to in a minute, the whole thing was pretty okay.

Post Treatment Treatments.
A little bit of post-treatment discomfort is expected, and it is recommended that you use their PEACE+ soothing formula (at RM18 per ampoule) which contains active Larrea Divaricata ingredients - a leaf extract that is anti-inflammatory, moisturizing and a hair regrowth moderator.

The Pain.
Ah, the golden question. What we would give to tell you that it was all cupcakes and roses, but it wasn't. The first half hour was bearable, and then came the last bit. This is perhaps the one aspect of waxing that you'll need to be prepared for if you're interested. Of course, pain levels will vary based on individual pain tolerance levels. Word on the net suggests that it is normal for first timers to feel the pain, and it will gradually feel less painful after several treatments.

The Gain.
Generally, you'll want to consider getting a wax because:
1. It is more hygienic as hair does trap impurities
2. It even feels cleaner
3. You can wear any kind of swimwear without worrying about any, err, stray hairs
4. It is much better than shaving, which leaves you with dense stubs and possibly painful ingrown hairs
5. You'll feel... different... in a sexy way

After Care.
No swimming, exercising, saunas, steam baths for 24 hours.
No scrubbing, sun tanning for 1 week.

When To Go Back For More.
Advisable after 5 to 6 weeks and 1 week after your period is over.

Just so you know, STRIP boasts experience that spans over 3 million "bushes" and counting; so they definitely know what they're doing. If you want to get waxed, there's just no doubting that they are the people you should be going to.
